Trident Technical College Culinary Institute of Charleston

The Trident Technical College Culinary Institute of Charleston at the Palmer Campus is a 22,000 sq. ft. project featuring interior renovations, additions and a new façade that support the rapid growth in the school’s culinary arts program. The building features a 125-seat demonstration kitchen with tiered seating. Quartered Anigre millwork finish gives the facility a high-end, yet comfortable atmosphere. This unique space is now a highly sought-after venue for community events in the area.

“The design of our culinary school encourages creative thinking among our students and our community gets to savor in their success.”

-DeRuyter O. Butler, A.I.AExecutive Vice President of Architecture, Wynn Design & Development

Also consisting of eleven teaching kitchens, a hospitality suite with exterior terrace/patio, a hospitality management classroom containing a demonstration hotel room/bathroom and full-size front reception desk, the Institute houses a wine classroom with climate-controlled wine storage, staff offices, conference room,
general classrooms, computer lab, and a full-service loading dock, all designed to meet the criteria for the LEED Silver credential. A 50-seat teaching restaurant, 181 Palmer Dining Room, provides fine dining to the public and serves as a venue for business meetings downtown. The academic building, created with natural materials and a sustainable, energy-efficient system, is used to facilitate catering functions throughout the campus, and also serves as an integral part of the recruitment plan by hosting national cooking competitions.
